The Lahore Qalandars side has finally got their first win of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as they gave Quetta Gladiators first loss of the tournament as Umar Akmal showed his talent and class by scoring 93 runs off just 40 balls and helped his team score biggest total.
Qalandars were beaten by Karachi Kings in the first game and then Peshawar Zalmi in the second game. They were up against Quetta who were the only team with 3 wins and 100% record in the tournament so far. But Qalandars were determined to end their streak.
Quetta had lots of success while batting second in the tournament so they won the toss and asked Lahore to bat first. Lahore had dropped aggressive left-hand batsman Chris Gayle so Cameron Delport opened the batting with Captain Azhar Ali gave a good start.
Delport dominated their partnership as they scored 62 in 10 overs. Azhar Ali got out after scoring 21 and that brought Umar Akmal to the crease. They had 95 runs partnership of just 42 balls. Deport scored 73 off 55 balls and Akmal scored 93 off 40 as they finished at 194/3 in 20 overs.
Quetta's top order batsmen have been in great form but today Ahmed Shehzad scored 15, Luke Wright scored 4 and Kevin Pietersen scored 12 as they were 37/3. Muhammad Nawaz and Sarfraz Ahmed had 74 runs partnership as Nawaz scored 42 and Sarfraz scored 31.
But from 111/3, Quetta lost next 7 wickets for 20 runs and they were bowled out for 131 in 16.2 overs. Lahore spinners caused the most damage as Zafar Gohar gave just 14 runs in 3.2 overs and took 4 wickets whereas Ajantha Mendis gave 17 runs in 3 overs and picked up 3 wickets.
