Quetta Gladiators outplay Islamabad United in opening game of PSL

The Quetta Gladiators have pulled off an upset in the inaugural match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as youngster Muhammad Nawaz surprised everybody and took 4 wickets and then scored some useful runs to help his side beat star studded Islamabad side.

The Gladiators' captain Sarfraz Ahmed won the toss and elected to field first which proved out to be a very good decision. Their fast bowler Anwar Ali started the innings with a maiden against in-form Australian Shane Watson who was coming after scoring century against India.

Zulfiqar Babar took the first wicket of Sharjeel Khan and soon Muhammad Nawaz bowled Shane Watson and England International Sam Billings to put the opposition in trouble. Islamabad United were left clueless and were struggling badly at 63/6 in 14.2 overs.

Misbah-ul-Haq, the man of crisis had 57 runs partnership with Andre Russell as they took their side to a respectable total. Misbah scored 41 runs off 28 balls whereas Andre Russell scored 35 runs off 20 balls as they ended the innings at 128/7 in 20 overs. Nawaz gave 13 runs in 4 overs and took 4 wickets.

In reply Quetta opener Luke Wright played a brilliant knock and went after the Islamabad bowlers from the start. He scored half century and kept going even though Ahmed Shehzad and Kevin Pietersen were dismissed. Wright and Nawaz scored 86 and 22 respectively as they won with 4 overs to spare.
