The hosts Bangladesh Under-19 have defeated the Sri Lankan Under-19 team by 3 wickets in a thrilling game to secure the third position for the first time in the tournament as they chased a target of 215 runs in the last over as captain Mehedi Hasan Miraz scored a fifty.
Bangladesh had lost to West Indies in the semifinals whereas Sri Lanka were beaten by India. Both teams were looking to end tournament on a higher note as Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. Their openers gave them 50 plus partnership to start the innings brilliantly.
The partnership ended when Salinda Ushan Pereira was dismissed after scoring 34 runs. Two overs later other opener Kamindu Mendis got out after adding 26 runs. Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka played a great innings of 76 runs off 99 balls with six fours and a six.
Shammu Ashan and Wanidu Hasaranga scored 27 and 30 respectively to help their side go above 200. Bangladeshi captain Mehedi Hasan Miraz took 3 wickets as they bowled out the Sri Lankan side for 214 in 48.5 overs. But Bangladesh could not get off to a good start.
Hosts lost their opener Zakir Hasan for a duck and then Jaker Ali was looking good but he had to retire after scoring 31 runs. Nazmul Hossain Shanto and captain Miraz had a magnificent partnership of 88 runs as Shanto scored 40 and Miraz scored 53 to help their side win the match with just 3 balls to spare.
