West Indies Under-19 team has caused a big upset in the ICC World Cup as they stunned the two-time champions and three-time finalists of World Cup Pakistan by 5 wickets as their bowlers restricted Pakistan to 227 and then chased it down with 5 wickets and 10 overs to spare.
The Caribbean side had reached the Quarterfinals after causing a controversy but today they did not need to Mankadding. The Pakistani captain Zeeshan Malik won the toss and elected to bat first which did not prove out to be a good decision and they lost wickets early.
The skipper was the first wicket to fall as he scored just 3 runs. Shadab Khan followed him soon after scoring just 1 run and other opener Muhammad Umar scored 8 runs. Pakistan lost 3 wickets for 21, fourth at 40 runs and fifth at 57 runs before a big partnership between Umair Maqsood and Salman Fayyaz.
The wicket-keeper batsman Maqsood scored a century and Fayyaz scored half-century as together they had 164 runs partnership. Their effort took Pakistan's total to 227/6 in 50 overs. But West Indian openers came with an attacking mind set and had 45 runs partnership off 38 balls.
Gidron Pope got out after scoring 25 off 18 balls but other opener Tevin Imlach kept going and had 77 runs partnership with Shimron Hetmyer. Imlach scored 54 and Hetmyer scored 52. Pakistan took few wickets but Jud Goolie and Keemo Paul scored 26 and 24 to take their side over the finishing line.
