The Leo Lions have made the Masters Champions League (MCL) as they defeated Sagittarius Strikers in a thrilling encounter which was decided off the second last ball of the last over as opener Johan Botha scored 70 runs and helped his side chase the 152 runs total.
Before this match Leo had 2 points from 3 games as they had won 1 game and lost two whereas Sagittarius Strikers were playing their last game of the group stage as win would have almost guaranteed their place in the semifinals with 6 points and 3 wins.
Sagittarius Strikers captain Adam Gilchrist won the toss and elected to bat first. The skipper opened with in-form Sri Lankan opener Mahela Jayawardene and they scored 40 in four overs before Jayawardene was dismissed by Botha after scoring 21 off 13 balls.
Gilchrist scored 33 as the spinners Ramesh Powar, Botha and Robin Peterson were dominating and took first 4 wickets. None of them could play a big innings and it looked like they would finish around 130, but Nathan Hauritz scored 24 off last over to reach 150.
In reply Johan Botha was aggressive from the start and even though he lost other opener Hamish Marshall early, he had partnerships with Brendon Taylor, James Franklin and Scott Styris to reach near the target. Styris scored 23 off 13 balls as he took his side over the line with only one ball to spare.
