It’s almost on the heels of Rahul Dravid tipped to be the next coach for Delhi Daredevils that it’s been announced that Heath Streak could be the bowling coach for the newly launched IPL team, Gujarat Lions. Earlier, it had emerged that Brad Hodge will be the team’s leading coach.
The Zimbabwean, who’s the current coach for the Bangladesh national side, could add to his responsibilities’ portfolio as his coaching contract with the BCB doesn’t restrict him to that one responsibility alone.
Streak’s reputation as a bowling coach precedes him as under his tutelage, the Bangladeshi team has shed its minnows’ tag. As such, his appointment has brought about a great surge of expectations for the new team that will be captained by Suresh Raina.
Streak was a phenomenal player for Zimbabwe, though political controversies marred a huge chunk of his career. The 41-year old was the first Zimbabwean to reach the milestone figure of 100 wickets in tests. He finished his test career having played 65 matches with a total haul of 216 wickets at an economy of 2.69 runs. He was quite adept as a batsman too and finished with 1990 runs in tests with a high score of 127 runs (not out).
