Rahul Dravid’s primary focus right now may be his U-19 protégés, who have reached the semi-final of the ICC U-19 World Cup. But if early emerging reports are to believed, then Rahul Dravid’s next coaching assignment will start at the upcoming IPL.
Dravid, who was mentoring the Rajasthan Royals’ team prior to it being barred from action for two years, is tipped to take over coaching responsibilities of the Delhi Daredevils. The Daredevils, who have splurged immensely in the IPL player auction, including buying the second costliest player, Pawan Negi, for INR 8.50 billion, have been stranded at the bottom of the points table for the past three years in succession.
This year, the Daredevils were also the side to let go of the most number of their players, including Yuvraj Singh, who was their costliest buy last season for INR 15 billion.
On his part, Dravid’s started to gain a reputation for his meticulous coaching techniques much as the solid reputation he had as a player. Under his mentoring, the Rajasthan Royals not only went on to be a consistent side, but it also had started to be known for his sportsmanship on the field.
If Dravid does take up the mantle of steering the Daredevils’ side in the right direction, it will not only be an interestingly positive change for the team, but would also be a welcome continuance to watch him excel as a coach.
