Parthiv Patel who led Gujarat to Win Vijay Hazare Trophy has always been hopeful of making comeback in Team India

Hardwork paid off, says Parthiv Patel

While the young Gujarat team celebrated its maiden Vijay Hazare Trophy win on Monday (December 28), skipper Parthiv Patel's celebrations were muted. Fulfillment, however, was written all over. Having marshalled a team of young talents through a disappointing Ranji Trophy season, the 30-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman, who came up with an inspiring century against Delhi in the final, says hard work and calculative risks paid off for his team in the tournament.

On winning the first Vijay Hazare title:

It is great. We worked hard as a team. We chopped and changed a lot of things; dropped a few senior players and got in youngsters. We have given them a long rope. We played the final four years ago but we have reached the quarterfinals for 3-4 years now. Winning for Gujarat is something special.

On the One-sided final:

It was brilliant for the confidence, just as the semi-final win against Tamil Nadu, which is probably a bigger and better side than Delhi. I won't take anything away from Delhi, they are also a brilliant side. But throughout the tournament, we have not worried about the opposition. We have just focused on how we play our cricket. We have just focused on how we play our cricket.

On Team Dynamics:

What we have done in this team is that we tell players why they are in or why they have been dropped, so they are not in the dark. We know we have always been fair to the players and they understand that and take it in the right spirit.

On his maiden List `A' century:

It couldn't have come at a better time. Winning the championship for a state is something special. I have been a part of two IPL victories, I have been a part of the World Cup final team too but winning a championship for the state is special because you've grown up there and know people have really backed you.

On entering the Mushtaq Ali Twenty20 tournament as the defending champions:

We want to carry our confidence into the event. Forget the one-day format and try and do well in the T20 format. We are the defending champions, so we are double-marked now. That doesn't bother us, we will just go and play good cricket.
