Ryan ten Doeschate and Ravi Bopara have been named the new skippers at Essex
Cricket - Essex have appointed Ryan ten Doeschate as the club captain, while Ravi Bopara will lead the limited overs side. Ten Doeschate has replaced James Foster, who quit captaincy in December after agreeing to become the cricket professional at Forest School. Ten Doeschate had previously captained the 50-over and T20 sides, but he will now hand over the captaincy to Bopara.
Bopara could miss the start of the NatWest T20 Blast campaign if he is picked up in the IPL auction, while ten Doeschate will not be featuring in the lucrative Indian Premier League this year and will therefore be available to lead Essex when the Championship season commences in April. Essex have brought in a few changes at the club, with Chris Silverwood replacing Paul Grayson as head coach and Nigel Hilliard stepping down as chairman. Former captain Ronnie Irani also returned to the club as cricket committee chairman in 2015.
