The Australia squad has been announced for the World T20 Championship in India and there are few surprises as Steven Smith has been named captain instead of Aaron Finch whereas Usman Khawaja, Ashton Agar, Peter Nevill and Adam Zampa have been included unexpectedly.
The chief selector Rodney Marsh said that Finch has done a good job as a captain but they believe this is the time to give Smith command of all three teams. He said that it will offer them consistency and continuity even after the World T20 so they have made Smith the captain.
Peter Nevill will make his T20 debut in the Championship as Matthew Wade and Cameron Bancroft, who played against India in the T20 have been dropped. Marsh said that they have got enough specialist batsmen so they will go for the specialist wicket-keeper.
Both spinners Ashton Agar and Adam Zampa will also make their debut as Marsh said that they have selected them after considering conditions. Nathan Lyon and Cameron Boyce were playing for a while but they have been dropped as selectors wanted variety of spinners.
Usman Khawaja has also been added even though he has played only one T20 International for Australia against India but he has been in a great form in all forms of Cricket. Khawaja had scored 2 centuries and 2 fifties in Big Bash League (BBL) and has also done well in Tests and ODI.
