First there was verbal confirmation from Darren Sammy that no West Indian player was considering boycotting the World T20 because of the remuneration issue between the WICB and players. And now, there’s the players’ signed confirmation that will see them participate in the biennial event to be held in March this year.
There are however three notable absentees from the initially selected 15-member squad. These are Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine, who had intimated earlier about their withdrawal from the event, and Darren Bravo, who’s conveyed that he is keen to focus on his test career than continue on with the shortest format of the sport.
The WICB had earlier named Carlos Brathwaite to take Pollard’s place in the team. It had however not announced the replacement bowler to take Narine’s place, though now it has roped in Ashley Nurse to take Narine’s place. The 27-year old Nurse is a Barbadian offspinner, who was a part of West Indies’ 2-1 win over South Africa in the T20 series held in South Africa last season.
The WICB is however yet to announce a player to replace Bravo in the team, though it is expected that the announcement will be made quite soon.
